16.25 pm Microsoft working on location sharing app People Sense; a replacement for ‘Rooms’ feature?
Similar to Apple’s Find my Friends, Microsoft is working on a location sharing app named ‘People Sense’. The app will work around users revealing their real-time location to selected contacts.
Detailed information about the app for was first spotted on Spanish blog Microsoft Place, which stated that People Sense, codenamed Buddy Aware is still in the development stage and the app will allow users to share their location in real time with contacts. Microsoft also plans to offer integration with third-party applications for communication and navigation purposes as well.
The app will allow users to select a group of friends/family, termed as “trusted circle” by Microsoft, and share their location with that group. The app will also provide easy access links to friends including messaging and calling from within the app.
As Microsoft will kill off ‘Rooms’ feature on Windows Phones in March, it would be interesting to see whether the new sharing app ‘People Sense’ will replace it. Rooms feature was added to Windows Phone 8 operating system almost two years ago. This feature would allow users to chat in a virtual room with their family and friends and also share data.
