Facebook launches 252 Kb 'Lite app' for users in developing countries

In a bid to cater to people with poor internet connections in developing countries, has unveiled a dedicated 252 kilobyte app, Facebook Lite, which has been specially designed to work on 2G networks and in areas with poor connectivity.
According to The Verge, the app is based on the Snaptu version of Facebook that runs on feature phones but adds functions like, push notifications and camera integration.
The app has been launched last week on an experimental basis in just a few countries in and including, Bangladesh, Nepal, Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Zimbabwe. The report added that a wider launch is "not a certainty.</p>
