Snapchat Modifies BFs And Also Launches “Discover” App

Snapchat created turmoil after dropping the Best Friends feature which allowed users to see who their contacts had been sharing “snaps” with the most. But the brief messaging service provider soon vowed to reinstate the service to assuage users who said the feature helped them ensure fidelity.
Snapchat executive Evan Spiegel tweeted to reassure their users that the feature would return: “We’ll bring back BFs soon. A few higher-profile friends wanted to keep their usernames private – we’ll come up with a better way to do that.”

The Best Friends feature listed the 3 people most often messaged by each user. Because of the ephemeral nature of the service, many users use the Best Friend feature to ensure fidelity among their close ones by keeping a tab on their contacts.
Snapchat allows users to send each other messages, videos and photos which “self destruct” after a period of time between one and ten seconds. Because of the ephemeral and secretive nature of the service, it can be used to send content which users may not want to see released into the public domain.
Snapchat has been a success with more than 100 million monthly users. The company, which rejected a $3 billion takeover offer from Facebook in 2013, is valued at about $10 billion. Recently, Snapchat launched its new Discover feature, which will allow news corporations to share content with the users.

Discover is different because it has been built for creatives. All too often, artists are forced to accommodate new technologies in order to distribute their work. This time we built the technology to serve the art: each edition includes full screen photos and videos, awesome long form layouts, and gorgeous advertising.
Discover is new, but familiar. That’s because Stories are at the core – there’s a beginning, middle, and end so that editors can put everything in order. Every edition is refreshed after 24 hours – because what’s news today is history tomorrow.
Discover is fun and easy to use. Tap to open an edition, swipe left to browse Snaps, or swipe up on a Snap for more. Each channel brings you something unique – a wonderful daily surprise!</p>
